Sept Missionary of the Month: Alex

Some of you guys know me and some of you don’t, so here’s a quick intro:  I’ve been doing Kingdom mischief in the Denver area for the last six years, and the last four of them have been primarily focused on supporting the prayer movement here.  That’s how I first ran into the WWM crew, and I’ve been hanging with them for almost two years now, officially as a missionary for one.  As a missionary, here’s a rundown of what I do:

So, knowing Jesus, if you haven’t found out, is the best thing ever.  Jesus is amazing and there is absolutely nothing better than having relationship with him.  For some reason, we have a fancy word that we use for being with, talking to, and getting to know Jesus—we call it “prayer.”  God is our Father, he’s our King, he alone knows our identity, and he knows not only our personal destiny, but the destiny of our family, workplace, city, and nation!  In other words, EVERYTHING flows from having relationship with God—again, it’s called “prayer” when we do that.  So what happens when you get to know someone like Jesus through spending time with him?  You start becoming like him!  You start caring about the same stuff he cares about, and you start believing what he says about you; that you have authority in the Kingdom to do something about it!

So that’s what I do in a nutshell:  On one hand I work to help develop a culture of prayer here in Colorado, and on the other hand I work to help people live out what it means to be sons and daughters of God who have Kingdom authority.  Lately, most of my ministry activity has been in that second category.  I’ve been really involved in our Zenith Window Cleaning project, doing business as ministry to create sustainable income and ultimately to fund all sorts of Jesus things.  I also had the privilege of being a Prayer and Evangelism Captain at Heavenfest this last month.  I got to be over a few different prayer teams, one of which was led by our good friend Kevin Kelly and just went around for the whole event finding people to pray for and bless.  That small team of about 30 prayed for somewhere between 500 and 1000 people over the course of the two days and the stories are still coming in of the people who were touched, set on fire, or physically healed through their ministry.  One guy from a really conservative background was stunned on the second day when he prayed for 5 people throughout the day who were all healed.  I love facilitating those sorts of teams because people begin to realize that this thing is real!  The gospel is really true!  When people have an experience like that with some coaching around it, they start moving out of a “four walls of the church” mentality into a Kingdom of God mentality that  empowers them to advance Jesus’ Kingdom everywhere they go!
